MEDICALLY-MANAGED WEIGHT LOSS

With a background in Family Medicine and being mentored by a nationally certified cholesterol specialist, Janelle has years of experience in medically managed weight loss, using both pharmacotherapy as well as personalized dietary recommendations.

As seen in the recent media and trends, a class of medication called GLP-1's are being used for weight loss, with vast amounts of proven success. Initially, these medications were prescribed to diabetic patients. It was found during the medication studies and in practice, patients on these medications were losing a large amount of weight. Thus, the subsequent FDA approval of said medications for weight loss. These medications work on the body's metabolic process, to not only allow individuals to lose weight, but also improve the comprehensive health of patients. Improving one's overall health by using these medications, in conjunction with lifestyle modifications, helps combat many preventable diseases that are well known to increase morbidity and mortality rates among Americans. These include, but are not limited to: diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and cardiovascular disease.

At North River Medical Group, medications such as semaglutide and tirzepatide are often prescribed. In some cases, adjunct treatments are added, such as vitamin supplementation and/or appetite suppressants, when indicated. These medications, in conjunction with personalized dietary recommendations, are used at North River Medical Group to help patients achieve their long-term weight and overall health goals.
